The 2026 Ascent’s exterior carries over largely unchanged, but the
Premium trim gains water-resistant synthetic leather
upholstery for the first time, and a new Sapphire Blue Pearl
paint color replaces last year’s Cosmic Blue Pearl. It’s a lineup
that’s continued to trim down to its strongest trims — Premium,
Limited, Limited Bronze Edition, Touring, and Onyx Edition Touring —
each still built around the same turbocharged engine and standard
all-wheel drive that make the Ascent a confident choice for road trips
up to Big Bear or the daily carpool run through Murrieta and Menifee.

Every Ascent runs the same 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer
engine, producing 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque, paired with
a CVT tuned with a simulated 8-speed automatic mode and steering-wheel
paddle shifters. Properly equipped, the Ascent can tow up to
5,000 lbs — well ahead of the Forester and Outback in
the Subaru lineup, and enough for a small camper or boat. Standard
X-MODE and 8.7 inches of ground clearance keep it composed off the
pavement, while Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard across every
trim.
Every 2026 Ascent comes standard with Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist
Technology, adaptive cruise control with lane centering, automatic
emergency braking, and lane keep assist. Under IIHS’s tougher 2026
testing criteria — which for the first time requires a “Good” rating
in an updated moderate overlap front crash test with a rear-seat dummy
— the Ascent earned a
