The future of electric performance is here. With nearly every major brand introducing all-electric vehicles, it’s possible for California to introduce its ambitious climate goals for the state. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) introduced plans that will lead to significant reductions in climate-warming pollution and cleaner air around Temecula. One of the primary goals is to eliminate gas-powered vehicles from the state’s roads as soon as possible. To meet this goal, California aims to have all new cars and light-duty pickup trucks sold in the state be electric by 2035. Models like the Subaru Solterra prove that you can add efficiency to your everyday trips around Temecula without sacrificing rugged capabilities. Learn more about the CARB EV regulations with Hello Subaru of Temecula.
The Advanced Clean Cars II regulations were introduced to regulate the production of smog-causing pollutants and greenhouse gases from passenger vehicles. Starting in 2035, the state will mandate that all newly manufactured cars be zero-emission vehicles. This includes battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and fuel-cell electric vehicles. However, gasoline cars will still be permitted for use in California, as long as they are registered with the California Department of Motor Vehicles and sold as used cars to new owners.
While the 2035 deadline may seem daunting for the gas-powered vehicle market, automakers are given production benchmarks to meet in the future. Starting in 2026, 35% of new vehicles sold need to be zero-emission vehicles and PHEVs. By 2030, that number will increase to 68%, until it finally reaches 100% in 2035. While the CARB ZEV program only applies to automakers, many dealerships around Riverside growing their inventory of EVs and guiding customers through owning an EV.
Transportation is the largest source of global warming emissions, so it’s beneficial for all Escondido drivers to make a dent in emissions from cars and light-duty trucks. However, the citizens who will receive the most benefit are those from communities that live by freeways and other heavily trafficked areas. By 2037, the regulation is expected to deliver a 25% reduction in smog-causing pollution from the affected vehicles.
To meet and maintain emission goals around the state, the CARB makes sure to also update regulations for light- and medium-duty vehicles with internal combustion engines. Tighter regulations for conventional vehicles reduce the allowable exhaust emissions.
The Advanced Clean Cars II regulation also helps create a dependable used EV market for affordable, zero-emission vehicles for all communities. A number of programs are in place to provide EV and PHEV access to moderate- and low-income communities:
